Myconail general information

What is Myconail used for?

Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% is a topical treatment for fungal infection of the nails, (onychomycosis), caused by fungi belonging to the dermatophytes, yeasts or moulds and for infections where the growing part of the nail plate (the matrix) is not involved.  Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% is effective against fungal infections due to dermatophytes like Tinea and Trichophyton that cause tinea of the nails known as tinea unguium as well as other common skin infections known as ringworm like tinea of the body (tinea pedis), foot (tinea corporis) and groin (tinea cruris); also against the yeast Candida albicans that causes candidiasis or thrush of the nail, and the mould Scopulariopsis.  Symptoms of onychomycosis include, white/yellow discolouration, crumbling and lifting of the nail, and it can cause destruction of the nail if left untreated.  Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% relieves symptoms of onychomycosis and clears the fungal infection.

How does Myconail work?

Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% contains amorolfine, a broad spectrum antifungal that is used in solution as a topical application for treatment of onychomycosis (fungal infections of the nails) due to a range of fungi, including dermatophytes, yeasts and moulds.  Amorolfine in Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% works by blocking sterol biosynthesis, which is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell membrane that is not found in animal cells.  This action of amorolfine in Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% results in a reduced ergosterol content and abnormal sterol production, altering the structure of the fungal cell membrane, which prevents the fungus from growing and kills the fungus, (fungistatic or fungicidal).

What does Myconail contain?

Myconail Nail Lacquer 5% contains the active ingredient amorolfine, a topical broad spectrum antifungal that is used in solution to treat onychomycosis.  Each pack contains 5ml Myconail Nail Lacquer, 60 isopropyl cleansing swabs, 30 nail files and 10 re-usable spatulas.
